These receivers are suitable for FTA channels, like those offerred by freesat or the FTA channels from sky and many more. Open source software and images are available to customise these receivers to meet most of your needs, although we cannot guarantee that special features such as interactive buttons or extended EPG's will work. We have seen these receivers demonstrated in a multi-room setup with a single card serving several oher boxes connected in a LAN. The onboard card reader is suitable for many types of encryption and customised images which read mst encryption types are available.
Multiroom functionality works as follows - the receivers are interconnected on a wired LAN. You will need a hub and CAT-5 LAN connection to ech box, as well as the appropriate feeds to each box from the dish. A card is placed in the pre-selected master unit and each 'slave' unit will access the card as needed meaning that you can channel hop encrpyted channels on the slave boxes at the same time as using the card normally on the master box - or in oter words, you watch say a premium encrypted movie channel on the master box, whilst someone else watches an encrypted documentary channel on one of the slave boxes, and perhaps some else watching an encrypted sports channel on another box.
This 'feature' does not work for all card types, and may be against the broadcasters terms and conditions of use, this will vary from service provider to service provider, however sharing with other people accross a WAN will almost certainly not be permitted and in many cases is illegal - we will not and cannot support such setups.

TechniSat SkyStar HD, a TV card for your PC that allows you to receive TV
broadcasts in both PAL and HDTV format. The abbreviation HDTV stands for
High Definition TV. This is a worldwide digital TV standard that provides
sharp contours, rich colours and tremendous depth. In addition, HDTV
broadcasts very often provide impressive surround sound. Naturally, the
SkyStar HD also supports Dolby AC 3.
The "TechniSat TV-Center" reception software supplied provides
outstanding picture and sound quality as well as a host of other
attractive features. Once you have successfully installed the hardware, it
is important for you to first of all sort your favourite programmes into
the correct order. To this end, the TechniSat TV-Center provides separate
favourite lists for TV and radio programmes, with a capacity of 100
programme slots on each list. The TV and radio programme slots can be
moved around at any time. If you should at some stage not be at home to
view your favourite programmes when they are broadcast, the software also
provides a Personal Video Recorder function. Here you can simply programme
your favourite programme, the SkyStar HD will record the programme and you
can view it whenever it suits you. Unfortunately, most TV programmes
include a lot of advertising, which continually interrupts the movie or
show you have recorded. The video editing software (EVE v2) provided gives
you the opportunity of deleting advertising. Naturally, the video editing
software also provides additional features, such as adding special
effects, or burning the recording onto a DVD.
A further important feature is the programme information service. This
programme information service provides a 5-day preview for upcoming
television programmes. The teletext function keeps you up to date with
news at all times. The TechniSat TV-Center also provides a timeshift
function, as well as a sleep timer function.
The SkyStar HD is ready for the insertion of a CI slot. This CI slot can
be ordered separately as of 2007, ensuring that your SkyStar HD can also
be used for Pay-TV.

The TechniSat SkyStar USB Plus is a compact USB 2.0 box
for digital reception of television and radio programmes via satellite -
on your notebook or desktop PC. The dimensions of the titanium-coloured
unit are only 10cm x 7cm x 2.5 cm (L x W x H). Its light weight ensures
the SkyStar USB is the ideal companion when you are travelling.
